The Head of Caspian Pipeline Consortium took part in the ceremony of consecrating the foundation stone of the Marine Cathedral in honor of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker which was held on 24 October in Novorossiysk. The consecration liturgy was performed by His Holiness Kirill Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
The event was attended by Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF President in the Southern Federal District V.V. Ustinov, Deputy Head of Administration (Governor) of the Krasnodar Krai G.D. Zolin, Head of Novorossiysk V.I. Sinaygovsky and top managers of major companies operating in the city. Sailors of the Novorossiysk Naval Base, cadets of the State Maritime University named after Admiral F.F. Ushakov, cadets of the Novorossiysk Cossack Cadet Corps and city residents were also present at the ceremony.
Upon completion of the liturgy, all attendees received small icons of Saint Nicholas with the Patriarch blessing.
The cathedral designed to accommodate 3000 people will be built opposite the State Maritime University named after Admiral F.F. Ushakov. The Patriarch voiced the necessity of its construction in early June 2011.
CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects in the energy industry with participation of foreign capital on the CIS territory. The length of the pipeline connecting the oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with single point moorings which allow for safe tanker lifting at a considerable distance from the shore, also when the weather conditions are unfavorable.
