On May 12, 2017, two new oil pump stations of Caspian Pipeline Consortium (A-PS-4A and A-PS-5A) were formally put into operation in the Astrakhan Region. A symbolical valve on the pipeline was opened by General Director Nikolay Gorban, Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin, and also CPC Shareholder representatives.
Before putting the facilities into service, CPC managers and experts gave the visitors a tour of A-PS-5A where the station’s hi-tech facilities built using state-of-the art technologies and world achievements were shown. The visitors viewed a control room, a mainline pump house, a fire station, a surge-relief system site and other equipment.
Each of the new pump stations is equipped with hi-tech frame modular buildings, over 220 km of power and control cables, nearly 3.7 thousand mechanical process and electrical power equipment units, and also instrumentation and control system equipment. The commissioning of these stations provided a further capacity increase of the Caspian section of the CPC oil pipeline (downstream of the Atyrau pump station to the Komsomolsk pump station) by up to 10 million tons of oil per annum.
In his speech, CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban thanked all participants of the construction project for high-quality work and the highest level of industrial and environmental safety, as well as occupational safety compliance. Special words of gratitude were spoken towards the regional administration and personally Governor Alexander Zhilkin and the regional government vice-chairman and minister of industry, transport and natural resources Radik Harisov for their support during the construction of the stations.
Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin stressed that the newly-constructed CPC facilities will help strengthen and develop cooperation between CPC and the region, improve its investment appeal, fill the local budget and solve public employment issues.

CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects in the energy industry with participation of foreign capital on the CIS territory. The length of the pipeline connecting the oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with single point moorings which allow for safe tanker lifting at a considerable distance from the shore, also when the weather conditions are unfavorable.
