CPC wins Oil Terminal 2018 international competition award

Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s Marine Terminal is awarded an Oil Terminal 2018 prized in the nominations: Grand Prix, Environmental Safety and Transshipment Giants. The award ceremony for best terminals took place as par of the 13th Strategic Congress and Oil Terminal 2018 Technical Conference in St. Petersburg on 22 November 2018.
The CPC Marine Terminal is a deep-sea oil loading terminal utilizing single point moorings (SPM’s) designed to load crude oil onto deep-draft tankers. The terminal has single point moorings (CALM buoys) located in Russia’s open territorial waters 5 km offshore in the Black Sea.
The Marine Terminal loads Suezmax and Aframaz tankers with no tanker draft restrictions. The loading rate per tanker is 12,700 m3/hr. Two tankers can load at the Marine Terminal at the same time.
The CPC pipeline system with the Marine Terminal at the end has 98% availability, the world-average being 90-95%. This is the result of CPC using unique technologies and equipment and high safety and occupational health culture.
As a reminder, 55.1 million tons of oil were loaded at the CPC Marine Terminal in 2017, which is 10.8 million tons more than in 2016. CPC Marine Terminal loaded almost 50 million tons from 1 January to 31 October 2018.
The consortium’s terminal has been operating as a well-tuned machine since the pipeline was commissioned. Built using modern technologies and equipment, it has won Oil Terminal international prizes four times: in the Gran Prix, Best Process Equipment, Reliable Partner and Sustainability nominations. The prize was established to recognize achievements of oil terminals in Russia, former USSR countries and Western Europe in various disciplines. The award ceremony is held once every three years.
The Strategic Congress and the Oil Terminal Technical Conference gather over 350 representatives of oil & gas, trading and transport companies annually, including oil refineries, oil terminals, ports and representatives of other areas of the oil business from about 25 countries in Europe, Asia and America. The Organizing Committee forms a Congress agenda based on information demand from oil & gas, oil & gas processing and petrochemical industries.

CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects in energy sector with participation of foreign capital in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz–Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km; it transports over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export crude, as well as crude from Russian oil fields, including the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
