On 22 September 2021, Novorossiysk Training and Scientific/Research Marine Biological Center of Kuban State University (NUNIMBTs FGBOU VO KGU) communicated the results of sea bottom sediments samples taken on 15 September within CPC Marine Terminal (MT) water area in Yuzhnaya Ozereevka. The samples were taken near the Single Point Mooring (SPM-1) by a diver using specialized equipment.
As per the results of the laboratory analysis, the oil products content was less than 50 mg/kg, which is below the lower range of mass fraction of oil products in the bottom sediments. The bottom sediments were examined by infrared spectrometry method in accordance with the Environmental regulations (Ф 1:2.2.22-98) methodology.
The same day, NUNIMBTs KGU representatives communicated the analysis results of sea water samples taken on 17 September in Novorossiysk coastal areas. The samples were taken using the measurement methodology of the Environmental regulations (Ф 14.1:2:4.128-98) in four points. As per the results, in the area of the dolphin aquarium (Bolshoi Utrish) the oil products content in water is 0.008 mg/dm3. In the area of Bolshoi Utrish (mussel farm of GPZ Utrish), the oil products content – 0.010 mg/dm3. At the eastern border of Utrish preservation water areas - 0.011 mg/dm3. At the Malyi Utrish cape - 0.011 mg/dm³. This is significantly below the standards of the maximum allowable concentration (MAC) for oil products in the water bodies of fishery importance (0.05 mg/dm3).
Independent laboratories and CPC keep monitoring the condition of water, air and bottom sediments in the Black Sea coastal areas.
The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
