CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

The Project is designed to increase the trunk pipeline capacity

Results of Analysis of Bottom Sediments and Water Samples Within CPC Marine Terminal and Near SPM-1 Water Area Published

20211001-4-1.jpgOn 01 October 2021, Novorossiysk Training and Scientific/Research Marine Biological Center of Kuban State University (NUNIMBTs FGBOU VO KGU) published the results of the analysis of sea bottom sediments samples taken on 24 September in the water area near the Energetik and Moryak holiday camps.

According to the laboratory analysis results, the content of oil products was below 50 mg/kg, thus being below the lower range of mass fraction of oil products in the bottom sediments. The bottom sediments were examined by infrared spectrometry method in accordance with the Environmental regulations (Ф 1:2.2.22-98) methodology.

As per the results received today, the content of oil products in water near Fregat’s berths is 0.015-0.016 mg/dm3. Near Energetik holiday camp - 0.013 mg/dm3. Near the beach in Yuzhnaya Ozereevka - 0.020 mg/dm3. Near SPM-1 - 0.019 mg/dm3. This is significantly below the standards of the maximum allowable concentration (MAC) for oil products in the water bodies of fishery importance (0.05 mg/ дм3).

Independent laboratories and CPC keep monitoring the condition of water, air and bottom sediments in the Black Sea coastal areas.

For information:

The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
