INTERVIEW OF CPC-R GENERAL DIRECTOR NIKOLAY GORBAN
- Tell us please why CPC needs this Project.
- CPC business is based on rigid international standards, including those in environmental management sphere. We fully comply with them, specifically, we use only state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly technologies. But we want to do more in preserving nature. Environmental and education project “Let’s Save Our Country’s Environment!” is being implemented in the Regions crossed by CPC trunk pipeline and should attract public attention to the issue of extinction of rare species of flora and fauna.
- What will the Region gain from the Project?
- The main task of the Project “Let’s Save Our Country’s Environment!” in Stavropol Krai is to contribute to the growth of population of red deer and sika deer within the Region. Deer were purchased, delivered to the temporary locations to the specially built night houses. CPC has also funded acquisition of bio-engineering structures, feeding stuff, conduction of veterinary interventions and preventive actions, once those will have been completed in March the deer will be released.
As part of environmental and educations activities - we assign high priority to them - topical open lessons are conducted for the schoolchildren of Stavropol Krai, providing them with a lot of new information and touching their feelings.
Creative contests for the best material on protection of the Region’s flora and fauna re held among the schoolchildren: art competition, photo competition, video competition “Young Eco Reporter”. A literature contest is held for the young talents in publicistic genre. All results will be announced during the third ten-day period of February. Upon completion of the Project, a ceremony will be held in Stavropol where the authors of the best works will be awarded commemorative diplomas and will receive gifts. In addition, the competition winners will take part in releasing the deer into the nature in Stavropol wildlife sanctuaries.
- Do you feel some feedback? How actively do schoolchildren participate in competitions?
- Yes, of course we do. A lot of works are being sent, most of them impress greatly. Participation in a competition gives a chance to children to think about what is going around them, to express their own child’s attitude towards pressing issues.
Several dozens open lessons have already been conducted, and in the course of each of them we saw interest in the eyes of the children, active response, desire to continue study of the topic. I think that the Project task, which is to attract the younger generation’s attention to protection of their native land nature, is being implemented in full. This is the most important thing.

- Ecology to CPC means both the daily work, and the bridge to the future - the future of our homeland.
We pump oil through the crude pipeline, which in itself is environmentally safer than other types of oil transport. Provision of environmental and industrial safety, labor safety and health protection - this is what we do every day and improve ourselves.
And, of course, this is the Company’s social responsibility in environmental protection - our programs to preserve biological diversity in the regions of our presence and also environmental and educational work with the younger generation.
- For may years CPC has been the Krai’s partner in the social sphere. What was done last year? What will be done this year?
- CPC charity activity in Stavropol Krai has been in progress since 1998. In total in 1998-2017, 7000 million Rubles were invested in charity programs. In 2017 alone, 86.7 million Rubles were invested in the social projects within the Krai.
CPC actively interacts with the Regional authorities under the signed Cooperation Agreement and renders target aid to health care, education, environmental protection and transport.
Thus, in 2017, 21 ambulances for Krai medical institutions, high-tech medical equipment for Central Hospitals in Ipatovsky and Izobilninsky Districts, electrical generators for Mineralovodsky Municipality, which had suffered from severe flood, were acquired using CPC funds. Engineering of a children’s unit of Izobilnensky District Hospital was completed,
Charity programs for children and most vulnerable population are conducted on an annual basis: New Year and Christmas holidays together with CPC, CPC to first-year schoolchildren. We also assist in preparation of the Regional youth team for participation in All-Russian amateur firemen skills competition.
This year the activities to implement charity projects will continue.
- A crude pipeline is a hazardous industrial facility. What does CPC do to minimize its environmental impact?
- This is about industrial ecology.
All types of control of the environmental component quality, control of potential pollutions and human and industrial impact on ecosystem are exercised at CPC facilities on a regular basis.
Multi-year control results demonstrate that the operation facilities’ environmental impact corresponds to the established standards. This means that the systematic actions undertaken by the Consortium in this field enables us to ensure environmentally safe functioning of CPC crude pipeline system.
