Regions Wish CPC a Clear Path to Success

Nikolai Platonov, CPC General Director, toured Russian regions crossed by the mainline oil pipeline during a business trip on April 24-27. The trip included visits to the construction sites of PS-3 in Kalmykia,  PS-4 in Stavropol and also the Marine Terminal, one of the most important infrastructure facilities of the CPC pipeline system, including the Tank Farm, where large-scale work activities are progress under the CPC Expansion Project. He also met with Kalmykian government and Novorossiysk administration leaders.
The meeting with the Novorossiysk city administration identified priority projects under CPC's sponsorship program, specifically the construction of a kindergarden for 160 children and a Tartan turf sports field for a local school in Glebovskoe.  The CPC General Director took the former under his personal control and visited Glebovka on the same day to look over a site selected to build the kindergarden. CPC plans to give Novorossiysk an extra 150 million rubles on top of its current community-related programs totaling 27 million rubles this year.
Summing up the results of the discussion, Igor Dyachenko, First Deputy Mayor of Novorossiysk, highlighted the significance of CPC's investments into the social and economic development of the city and assured that the consortium would be given full support in tackling any administrative and legal issues related to its activities.
The meeting was followed by a formal ceremony to hand over some new medical equipment to the Urology Department of Novorossiysk City Hospital No.1, a lithotriptoscope purchased by CPC-R (at the cost of nearly 16 million roubles).
In Kalmykia Nikolai Platonov and representatives of the republic's government took part in a formal ceremony to open a newly-repaired main building of a local maternity home and to hand over some modern medical equipment on behalf of CPC. Lyudmila Ivanova, the Chairman of the Kalmykian Government, made a speech at the ceremony. In her speech she stressed that the new modern medical equipment from CPC would help the maternity home improve the quality of treatment available to the little patients. According to Larisa Vasilyeva, a vice prime minister and the education, culture and science minister of Kalmykia, the republic now had a chance to improve its infant mortality rates (as the new equipment allows to keep alive newborns weighing as little as 700 g). She assured that the maternity home's highly-qualified medical personnel would be up to the challenge and wished CPC "a white road", which is the Kalmykian for "a clear path to" success in implementing all its plans.
CPC General Director met with Alexei Orlov, the Republic of Kalmykia's leader, to set out priority cooperation areas between the consortium and the republic. Alexei Orlov thanked CPC for its continuous support to Kalmykia, stressing the significance of each community-related programs implemented by the CPC. In his turn, Nikolai Platonov commented that the effectiveness of community-related projects implemented in Kalmykia was to a large extent due to the fact that it was "the right money in the right hands at the right time".
The total amount investment allocated by CPC to implement community-related programs in Kalmykia under the Expansion Project will amount to 130 million roubles (on top of 18 million rubles allocated by the consortium for community-related projected under its regular charity program only in 2012). In particular, the funds will be used to refurbish a children's creativity center in Komsomolsk which is currently in a breakdown state. The company also continues with its regular charity programs: CPC for Water Veterans, CPC for First Grade Pupils, New Year and X-Mas Holidays with CPC and CPC for Gifted Children. Next on the list is the purchase of some equipment for the republican TB dispensary.
The CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects with foreign capital in the CIS.  The length of the pipeline connecting oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal in Novorossiysk is 1,511 km.  CPC's Marine Terminal is equipped with Single Point Moorings that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, including bad weather conditions.
The Expansion Project includes rehabilitation of the existing, and construction of 10 additional pump stations (2 in the Republic of Kazakhstan and 8 in the Russian Federation), six crude oil storage tanks near Novorossiysk, as well as third single point mooring at the CPC Marine Terminal and replacement of 88 km of pipelines in Kazakhstan with a larger diameter pipe. The total amount of the Project investments will be US$ 5.4 billion.
