On October 12, 2017 Caspian Pipeline Consortium completed all work under the CPC Expansion Project in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The last one of the Consortium’s pump stations built in Kazakhstan - A-PS-3A - was put into operation at the ceremony. CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban, Atyrau Oblast Akim Nurlan Nogayev and CPC Shareholders’ representatives participated in the ceremony.
As a reminder: implementation of the Expansion Project in Kazakhstan was launched in 2011. The construction workers replaced the 88-km pipeline section, reconstructed Atyrau PS and Tengiz PS, constructed two new pump stations - A-PS-4 and A-PS-3A, installed external power supply facilities.
The project management was vested on KazMunayGas’s affiliate - Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures, KazStroiService, PromStroiEnergo, Telvent Energia S.A., Honeywell Automatic Control Systems and others performed the work under construction contracts.
Construction of A-PS-3A, where the ceremony of CPC Expansion Project completion in Kazakhstan took place, was commenced in August, 2013. At the height of work in summer of 2016 more than 600 workers and engineering specialists were working at the facility.
A-PS-3A is the facility constructed with application of the state-of-the-art technologies, and it meets al safety and reliability requirements to the oil and gas facilities. The pump station has the advanced equipment of world manufacturers with high level of automation.
Four electrically driven pumping units are installed in the mainline pump house. Mud strainers, pressure control station, DRA injection skid, PS life-support systems have been installed. In addition, automatic fire foam suppression and surge relief systems have been constructed.
A camp designed to accommodate 80 persons was constructed for the operation and maintenance personnel. An access motor road of 8.5 km was constructed to the facility. External power supply to A-PS-4 and A-PS-3A is provided by two new specially constructed overhead 220 kV power lines, each 224.5 km long, and two 220/10 kV sub-stations.
- Commissioning of A-PS-3A completed the implementation of the Project to expand CPC crude pipeline system in the Republic of Kazakhstan. This event will enable the Consortium’s team to not only fully satisfy the nominations of our Shippers within the current volumes, but also with the increased oil production in the regiona in the long-run, - noted CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban.

The CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects with foreign capital in the energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz–Novorossiysk Pipeline is 1,511 km; it transports over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export crude, as well as crude from Russian oil fields, including the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
