CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

The Project is designed to increase the trunk pipeline capacity

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the CPC Pipeline System oil-in

20210326-2.jpgThis milestone event occurred in the history of Caspian Pipeline Consortium on 26 March 2001. On this day 20 years ago, crude from Tengiz Field commenced to fill the CPC Pipeline System.

This event was marked by the official ceremony to celebrate commissioning of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk Pipeline in Atyrau, the oil capital of Kazakhstan. Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Vladimir Stanev, Deputy Minister for Energy of the Russian Federation, heads of oil and gas companies Nurlan Balgimbayev (Kazakhoil), Vagit Alekperov (LUKOIL), Timur Kulibayev (KazTransOil), Guy Hollingsworth (Chevron), Sergey Gnatchenko (CPC), as well as Yury Merzlyakov, the RF Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan and Richard Jones, the US Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan participated in the ceremony.

20210326-1.jpgThe ceremony included opening of a symbolic valve and a smart pig launch. A hermetic capsule containing a message of the first oil injection in the system was attached to the smart pig. Three months later the message was received and read at the CPC Marine Terminal in the vicinity of Novorossiysk. More than 1 mln tons of oil had been injected in the system by that time.

A commemorative stele was opened and trees were planted in Atyrau on the same day as a token of the environmental conservation and enhancement along the pipeline route.

“Participation of Russia and Kazakhstan in the CPC Project confirms the strategic idea of a balanced use of the Caspian energy potential”, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, the then Head of the Government and the incumbent President of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted at the ceremony.

During the 20 years since the oil-in of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk Pipeline, more than 700 mln tons of oil of more than 10 Shippers from Kazakhstan and Russian were exported through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system. Completion in 2018 of the CPC Expansion Project increased the CPC Pipeline capacity to 67 MTPA. In 2023, upon completion of the current Debottlenecking Program, pipeline capacity will increase to approximately 80 MTPA. Caspian Pipeline Consortium, a dynamically and consistently developing company, has been contributing to economic development of Russia and Kazakhstan and prosperity of the regions where the 1,511 km Tengiz-Novorossiysk Pipeline is operated.

For information:

The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
