Summing-up the results of the project “Protect Nature of Our Native Land” in the Astrakhan Region

On 21 May 2018, the results of the traditional environmental/educational project “Protect Nature of Our Native Land” were summed up in the Astrakhan Region. It is the third year that the project is being implemented in the region by Caspian Pipeline Consortium with support of the Caspian Scientific/Research Fisheries Institute (CaspNIRH).
This year, a creative competition was held within the framework of the project, involving the students of the social institutions of the Kharabalinsky, Enotaevsky, Limansky, Narimanovsky and Krasnoyarsky Districts of the Astrakhan Region. The winners received valuable gifts: TV sets, synthesizers, tablets.
The creative competition was preceded by environmental lessons, where the CaspNIRH scientists and specialists told the students about the environment and nature of the region, fish species inhabiting the Volga-Caspiy basin, technology of sturgeons growing. Practical classes in an ichtyopathology laboratory provided the schoolchildren with new knowledge in biology, chemistry, skills of handling a microscope and eyelens. The scientists described the present-day technologies used for water research, methods of determining concentration of biogenic substances.
By tradition, release of Russian sturgeon and beluga filgerlings was timed to coincide with the summing-up of the results of the environmental/educational project “Protect Nature of Our Native Land”. All in all, 8 265 Russian sturgeons weighting 150 grams and 350 belugas weighting about 250 grams were released in the delta area this year.
