20190524.jpg20190524-2.jpgOn May 24, 2019, the results of the traditional environmental/educational project “Let’s Save Our Environment” were summed up in Astrakhan Oblast. The project has been implemented for the fourth year in the region by Caspian Pipeline Consortium with support of the Caspian Scientific/Research Fisheries Institute (CaspNIRH).

The ceremony timed to coincide with the Project completion was attended by representatives of the CPC-R, CaspNIRH, Astrakhan Oblast Government and Rosrybolovstvo, winners of the children creative contest, teachers and parents. By tradition, the ceremony started with release of Russian sturgeon juvenile fish from CaspNIRH base berth. Then, the contest winners were awarded and a festive concert was held.

In addition to the practical goal of increasing the population of rare sturgeon, the project has an important educational mission – the formation of the younger generation of respect for the nature of their native land and the education of environmental culture. As a note, this year the educational part of the project was conducted in five districts of Astrakhan Oblast: Kharabalinsky, Yenotaevsky, Limansky, Narimanovsky and Krasnoyarsk where CPC operations facilities are located. 30 open lessons in 10 schools were arranged for children and covered the topic: “Sturgeon is a relict fish extant from the time of dinosaurs. Let’s preserve it for future generations”.

In addition, the children had an opportunity of demonstrating their creational potential in the creative contest for development of the best materials of a promotional nature on the environmental subject in the following nominations: “Propaganda Team”, “Drawing (poster, leaflet)” and “Applied and Decorative Art”. The judges declared 27 pieces of art the winners, and their authors received valuable gifts from CPC.

On the following day, CaspNIRH scientific and research vessel will proceed to the delta area where the Russian sturgeon juvenile fish will be released into the natural habitat, In total, 1,700 juveniles of an average weight of about 500 g each will be released this year as part of CPC charity program.
