The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), the builder and operator of a 1,500 km trunk pipeline from Kazakhstan to Russia’s Black Sea coast, has launched a de-bottlenecking program that will increase the line’s capacity to 80 million metric tons per year (1.6 million b/d). General Director Nikolai Gorban told Energy Intelligence on the sidelines of the 24th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum how the investment is progressing and what issues are of concern for consortium shareholders.

Volumes are growing up
The throughput capacity of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium is being doubled. This year the volume of crude oil transported by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) shall hit the record figure of 43 mln. tons. But the next year it shall be possible to transfer up to 67 mln. tons of crude oil.
The Caspian bets on CPC
Next year Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) will finish a project to expand the largest pipeline in the region. When the company plans to repay the shareholder debt and whether the quality of oil will get worse after the new Caspian fields go in production is related by Nikolay Gorban, CPC General Director.

Crude oil pump station (PS) “Atyrau” of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system was commissioned last week, while its Tengiz PS was put into pilot operation. Thanks to a growing throughput of the CPC system, major quantities of Kazakhstan crude will be directed to the world markets. Upon completion of the Expansion Project, Kazakhstan can double crude movement via CPC.
