On 8 August 2024, the crude pipeline system of Caspian Pipeline Consortium was put back into operation after the 62-hour scheduled shutdown.
To ensure reliable and safe operation of Tengiz - Novorossiysk crude pipeline system, scheduled routine maintenance of the line pipe, pump stations and Marine Terminal equipment was conducted at the Company’s operation facilities. The work was carried out on the mechanical process, power and electrical equipment, instrumentation, automation and control systems. The work was also completed under CPC ongoing and capital projects that was only possible during shutdown of Pump Station and crude pipeline equipment.
Four P1 and P2 repair sleeves were installed on the line pipe of Tengiz - Novorossiysk trunk pipeline in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The tightness of two mainline ball valves was tested by applying pressure differential, stem yoke sleeves were replaced on one valve. Six mainline ball valve electric actuators were replaced on the crude pipeline segment located in Astrakhan Oblast and Republic of Kalmykia. A CP component was replaced on the pig launcher/receiver (pig L/R) at PS-2. Electric actuators were replaced on four mainline ball valves in Stavropol Krai and Krasnodar Krai. A mainline ball valve at the pig L/R was replaced near Kropotkin PS. A CP component was replaced at the inlet of pig L/R at PS-4.
The following work was carried out at the pump stations: Tengiz PS - permanent platforms for equipment maintenance were installed at the mainline pump station, Atyrau PS - orifice plates on recirculation lines of two mainline pump units were upgraded, PS-3 and PS-5 - the work was completed in the control cabinets. Cabinets of automatic gas letdown station control system and programmable logic controllers of fire and gas detection system were switched over and other operations were completed.
As part of upgrade of the existing energy system of the Marine Terminal Tank Farm the new signals from the Packaged Transformer Substation were integrated, the software for UPS signal integration was adjusted. The pipelines of on inlet and outlet headers of the pressure control station were tied in at the Shore Facilities under the Debottlenecking Program.
As a note: this type of scheduled shutdowns is carried out several times a year with an advance notice sent to the Shippers. Crude lifting from the Marine Terminal has currently been resumed in the standard mode.
For information:
CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects with foreign capital in energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route transports over two-thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil, and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
