CPC Celebrates Its Jubilee

​Today, October 13, is a 10-year anniversary of commencing Caspian Pipeline Consortium system operations. The time elapsed since loading the first tanker has shown that the CPC project is one of the most successful ones in the sphere of energy in the post-soviet area.

The consortium’s hallmarks include its advanced organizational and managerial techniques, modern and reliable equipment, highly-professional and responsible personnel. Thanks to the combination of these factors, CPC has invariably demonstrated high results in the sphere of quality, reliability and safety. Over the 10 years, the pipeline has been operated without any accident. During these years, almost 270 million of crude oil was shipped from the CPC marine terminal, and over 2500 tankers were handled at the single point moorings there.

By way of accumulating achievements and experience of each of its shareholders, the consortium became a symbol of reliable and mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia, Kazakhstan and leading world oil and gas companies.

CPC is the large investment project with involvement of international capital in the CIS area. Following one of the Great Silk Way routes, CPC continues the old economic traditions and plays an important integrating role. Staying apart from the politics, the consortium promotes nevertheless connections between nations and enhancement of their mutual understanding.

The consortium operations contribute to economic and social development in the regions traversed by the pipeline, where its facilities are located. For local businesses, the company gives a good example of sticking to high international standards in all spheres of activities.

CPC is a unique project in many respects. One of the secrets of its success is its people who are good professionals devoted to their work. The consortium is a good example of efficient and fruitful cooperation between representatives of various countries.

The company jubilee coincided with another very important stage of CPC life: commencement of implementing the CPC pipeline capacity expansion project. The consortium is a live, dynamic and continuously developing system. The increase of its capacity is an imperative of this time. The additional oil volumes, once delivered to the international markets, will contribute to enhancement of the world energy security.

This work has already started and is performed at some locations ahead of schedule. It should be noted that the Expansion Project will be implemented without shutting the pipeline down.

Further complicated and very important work is still expected, which will call for very much effort from the consortium staff. But the CPC management and employees are sure that the high professionalism, accumulated experience and cohesion of the international company team will allow reaching the objectives set forth by shareholders at a high quality level and in a timely manner.

The length of the pipeline connecting oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal in Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC’s Marine Terminal is equipped with Single Point Moorings that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, including bad weather conditions.

The CPC project was originally developed with a view to future increase of its initial capacity by 2.5 times up to 67 MTA (76 MTA with DRA).

The Expansion Project includes upgrading the existing pump stations and building 10 new additional ones (2 in Kazakhstan and 8 in Russia), six oil storage tanks near Novorossiysk and a third single point mooring at the CPC Marine Terminal, and also the replacement of an 88 km pipeline section in Kazakhstan with a larger diameter pipe. The total amount of investment into the project will equal USD 5.4 bn. The expansion is planned to be completed in 2015.
