CPC prepares for the flood season

Caspian Pipeline Consortium has been preparing its operation facilities for the flood season since 1 March 2018. The work in the regions of potential flood area is carried out in advance at both the pipeline and Pump Stations.
Actions are taken to prepare water supply and sewage, power supply and cathodic protection systems for the flood season at all Consortium’s Pump Stations in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Krasnodar and Stavropol Krais, the Republic of Kalmykia and Astrakhan Oblast. In particular, stormwater drainage systems of the Tank Farms and Pump Stations are inspected, the condition of lightning arresters and grounding as well as drain tank automated systems are checked. All suction pumps are inspected and facility firefighting systems are prepared for the summer season.
Furthermore, pipeline block valves are inspected and subjected to full closing and opening, tightness and water drainage tests. At the same time there is continuous supervision over underwater pipeline crossings of water barriers and bottomland areas, the pipeline areas are cleaned from accumulated sunken logs and garbage to prevent jams and forced high water.
CPC ERS specialists prepare necessary floating facilities for open-water operations, build required luboil stock.
It should be noted that water rising in the Chernozemelsky Channel, Volga River, Kuban River, Manych River and others, including mountain rivers, is monitored permanently for the purpose of timely identification of threats to the pipeline facilities. The south of Russia crossed by the CPC pipeline route is among the most flood dangerous regions of the country, therefore, such sections of the pipeline are subject to special scrutiny of the Consortium’s specialists.
The current river levels in the pipeline regions do not exceed the set thresholds.
For reference:
CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects in the energy industry with participation of foreign capital on the CIS territory. The length of the pipeline connecting the oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with single point moorings which allow for safe tanker lifting at a considerable distance from the shore, also when the weather conditions are unfavorable.
