On 5-6 August 2018, CPC General Director Nilolay Gorban made a working visit to CPC’s oil transportation facilities in Kazakhstan. Nikolay Goban visited the Tengiz pump station, Atyrau pump station, APS-3A and APS-4. The CPC General Director inspected station equipment and carried out unscheduled tests of CPC and contractor personnel readiness for emergency response. In a meeting, it was stated that the regional team already had 19.2 million hours completed without any lost-time incidents by the beginning of August 2018.
As a reminder, in accordance with a contract signed between CPC and KazTransOil in May 2018, KTO started providing maintenance, repair and remergency response services at CPC-K pipeline system sites in Kazakhstan effective from 1 Jule 2018. The handover of duties from the previous contractor to the new one went normally, allowing field operations to be continued safely and effectively.
In 2017, out of 55.1 million tons of oil pumped through the CPC pipeline styems, 49.6 million tons came out of Kazakhstan, up 21.6 % on 2016. The Tengiz pump station received about 28.7 million tons (up by 4%). The Atyrau pump station received 20.8 million tons into the pipeline system, up 57.8% on 2016.
The Tengiz and Atyrau pump stations were upgraded under the CPC Expansion project in 2015. APS-4 was commissioned in Kazakhstan in 2016 and APS-3A in 2017.

CPC pipeline system is one of the largest investment projects in the energy industry with participation of foreign capital on the CIS territory. The length of the pipeline connecting the oil fields in Western Kazakhstan with the Marine Terminal near Novorossiysk is 1,511 km. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with single point moorings which allow for safe tanker lifting at a considerable distance from the shore, also when the weather conditions are unfavorable.
The Expansion Project includes rehabilitation of 5 existing and construction of 10 additional pump stations (2 in the Republic of Kazakhstan and 8 in the Russian Federation), six new storage tanks (100,000 cu.m each) in addition to the existing four near Novorossiysk and a third SPM at the CPC Marine Terminal, and also the replacement of an 88 km pipeline section in Kazakhstan with a larger diameter pipe. The total amount of the Project investments will be US$ 5.4 billion.
