JSC Caspian Pipeline Consortium-R invites everyone to take part in an open solution of three mathematical problems dedicated to physical processes connected with oil transportation and loading.
We proceed from the premise that technological processes in the industry are based on the laws of physics and allow to solve any problems by mathematical methods on the basis of available instrumental control data.
Three calculations are proposed to be done:
- Given: the surface area of an orifice is 118,692 mm2, the density of a liquid is 775 kg/m3, the volume of the liquid is 400 t, the weighted average pressure during the outflow period is 20,500 Pa, 600 mm is the calculated diameter of each of two hoses connected as communicating vessels and supplying the liquid to a device with the above orifice, the coefficient of outflow from the orifice is 0.06. The outflow is happening in the atmosphere.
Task: calculate the time of liquid outflow.
- Given: the volume of a liquid is 400 tons, the duration of liquid discharge is 17 minutes, the density of the liquid is 775 kg/m3 , the weighted average pressure during the period of discharge is 20,500 Pa, 600 mm is the calculated diameter of each of two hoses connected as communicating vessels and supplying the liquid to a device with the orifice, the coefficient of discharge from the orifice is 0.06. The outflow is happening in the atmosphere.

Good luck!
For information:
The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
CPC Shareholders: Federal Agency for State Property Management represented by Transneft (trustee) – 24%, CPC Company – 7%, KazMunayGas – 19%; Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures LLC – 1.75%, Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium Company – 15%, LUKARCO B.V. - 12.5%, Mobil Caspian Pipeline Company - 7.5%, Rosneft-Shell Caspian Ventures Limited - 7.5%, BG Overseas Holding Limited - 2%, Eni International N.A.
