Visit of Legislators and Environmental Activists to Atyrau PS

On 17 May 2023, deputies of Atyrau City Maslikhat and environmental activists visited Atyrau PS. The pump station staff acquainted the guests with the work of the operation facility and the technologies used there.

The delegation could get acquainted with the equipment and technical capabilities of the PS tank farm. The tanks installed there are equipped with floating roofs with modern rigid seals providing 99% suppression of oil vapor emissions into the atmosphere compared to conventional stationary roofs.

Tour participants showed great interest in the Station's highly efficient system for treating domestic wastewater and industrial and storm water wastes.

The treatment facilities are highly automated. Their process cycle includes preliminary sedimentation in static settling tanks, physical and chemical treatment together with pressure flotation, post-treatment at a five-stage filter, and disinfection at the ultraviolet plant.

The water purified to the MAC in the fishery is fed into four-section evaporation ponds equipped with an impervious screen.

It should be noted that the Station’s staff are zealous with respect to water resources and reuse treated water for irrigation of greenery and for dust suppression. The guests were told that during the April campaign called Clean Bank, Atyrau PS staff alone had planted 400 saplings and the entire team of CPC Eastern Region had planted in total 1,500 trees.

In a conversation with the deputies of the Atyrau City Maslikhat, the issue of the proximity of the landfill to the PS facilities was raised. Representatives of Atyrau legislative body reported that it was planned to be closed in 2025.
