CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

The Project is designed to increase the trunk pipeline capacity

Visit of Public and Media Representatives to CPC Tank Farm

IMG-20240416-WA0011.jpgOn 16 April 2024, a group of environmental activists, local residents of Novorossiysk, Rayevskaya Cossack village, Yuzhnaya Ozereevka and Glebovka settlements and media representatives visited CPC Marine Terminal Tank Farm. Of those invited, representatives of Anapa City Administration were unable to attend.
The visit was arranged in response to the wishes of the participants of the roundtable between CPC and the public conducted in Novorossiysk on 13 December 2023 where the issues of control of volatile organic compounds in the atmospheric air in the area of the Consortium’s Marine Terminal, the results of scientific research of the aquatic environment near the coast of the Abrau Peninsula and other topical environmental issues were discussed.
The Consortium’s managers and specialists introduced the guests to the Marine Terminal facilities and told them about modern and safe technologies used in storage, transportation and transshipment of raw hydro carbons in the oil lifting port.
The guests were informed, inter alia, of the basic scheme of the Marine Terminal operation. Crude oil from the trunk pipeline first enters the Marine Terminal Tank Farm located in the mountains. The Tank Farm represents one of the largest in Russia oil storages with the total capacity of one mln tons. Ten SVFRT-100000 tanks equipped with an automated fire suppression system are housed in strong, reliable concrete carriages capable of holding 120% of each tank's contents. -5255866697364134925_121.jpg

The equipment of tanks with floating roofs caused particular interest of the visitors in the context of emissions of volatile organic compounds and oil vapors. The specifics of this technology is that the roof lies directly on the oil and thus effectively prevents volatile hydrocarbons from entering the atmosphere. To prevent oil vapor emissions into the atmosphere, the tanks are equipped with floating roofs with rigid second seals.
Due to the difference in geodetic elevations of the Tank Farm (TF) and the Shore Facilities (SF), oil from the TF tanks flows by gravity through the inter-site pipeline to the SF and then through subsea pipelines to the single point moorings (SPM), from where it is delivered to the tankers’ tanks of via two floating loading hoses.
-5255866697364134968_121.jpgThe SPMs are located at a significant distance from the shore (about five km), thus allowing for lifting operations also amid poor weather conditions.
The guests were also shown a unique high-tech system for the treatment of domestic and industrial rainwater and a wastewater disposal system. Wastewater is treated up to the indicators of fishery value and is used to replenish the firewater stock at the Marine Terminal, which makes it possible to exclude wastewater discharge into the sea area.
As a reminder: since 2018, CPC has been arranging on a regular basis Doors Open days and roundtables for public, local residents and media representatives, introducing them to the operation processes of oil transportation. Thus, in 2023 alone two roundtables and a visit of Krasnodar Krai Legislative Assemble deputies took place. This type of contacts help to build a positive dialogue as part of CPC transparent environment protection policy.-5255866697364134870_121.jpg

For information:
CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects with foreign capital in energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route transports over two-thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil, and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
