CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

CPC and EMERCOM Conducted Drill in the Republic of Kalmykia

-5278250078341029711_121.jpgOn 24 April 2024, an oil spill response drill was conducted in Iki-Burulsky district of the Republic of Kalmykia. The drill was conducted on KP 896 of the line pipe of Tengiz - Novorossiysk crude pipeline. CPC staff and Contractors’ personnel and EMERCOM representatives participated in it. In total, about 100 persons and over 50 units of equipment were engaged. 
According to the drill scenario, at 9:00 a.m. Moscow time, the automated leak detection system discovered an oil spill, the information also confirmed by CPC Security mobile group. At the command of a dispatcher from the Operations Control Center for the line pipe PS-3 was shutdown and the simulated disconnection of the “emergency” section was carried out by closing the block valves.

Resources and vehicles of the Professional emergency response unit (PERU) were promptly sent to the spill location. According to the notification chart, the necessary information was forwarded to the state executive authorities and competent organizations. Security specialists arranged a cordon around the oil spill, controlling the access of people and vehicles to the sites of containment and elimination of consequences. Konstantin Rybak, CPC Regional Operations Division Head (Regional Manager) headed the Operations Headquarters.
The drill results confirmed that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and EMERCOM of Russia Main Department in the Republic of Kalmykia are in constant readiness, have sufficient resources and means to contain and eliminate the maximum possible oil spills.

Large-scale exercises are conducted in CPC on a regular basis, allowing to assess the readiness of CPC pipeline operation teams, Security and dispatchers of the Consortium to emergencies.

CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects with foreign capital in energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route transports over two-thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil, and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
