Elista Hosted CPC Team-Building on Leadership in Safety Culture Development

20240703-1.jpgOn 2-3 July 2024, a CPC corporate team-building on Leadership in Safety Culture Development was conducted in Elista. The Consortium’s Senior Managers and managers and specialists from all operation facilities were invited to attend. Batu Khasikov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, and Gilyana Boskhomdzhiyeva, Chairperson of the Republic of Kalmykia Government, welcomed the function participants.

In the course of the ceremony, CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban was awarded a medal “For Assistance” of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation. The award, handed by Batu Khasikov, Head of Kalmykia on behalf of the Ministry, recognizes the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's contribution to environmental conservation in the host regions, assistance in the Ecology national project, multi-year implementation of the environmental and educational project “Let’s Save Our Environment”, support to reservations and specially protected natural territories, raising environmental awareness among young people, proactive upgrade of operation facilities to minimize environmental impact. The quantitative growth of the saiga population in the Chernye Zemli (Blackland) State Nature Reserve was another successful indicator of CPC's nature protection activities. Reserve Director Bataar Ubushayev announced the results of counting after the spring calving: the number of steppe antelopes reached 40 thousand.

20240703-2.jpgAs part of the corporate function, the results of fulfilling the CPC Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Strategic Plan for 2023-2024 were discussed. The results helped to elaborate in detail the key objectives and tasks of a new Strategic plan - for 2025-2027.

The participants worked through practical cases and challenges of managing contractors in HSE area. Particular attention was given to enhancing leadership skills during Safety culture committee meetings, including the following aspects: contractors’ involvement, analysis of observation cards, discussion of hazardous situations, incidents and lessons learned, frank dialog.

20240703-3.jpgAt the corporate function, the participants examined the best world practices, improved management practices, developed measurable key performance indicators to change the quality of work with contractors. Personal HSE commitments of managers and specialists for 2025 became one of the important outcomes of the workshops. Also, the Company’s best leaders in Safety culture development received awards during the function.

Since 2022, CPC has been implementing the HSE Strategic Plan aimed at achieving zero injury indicators and accident-free operation which is based on the Consortium’s, Shareholder Companies’ and world oil industry’s experience and on the individual diagnostics findings.

To ensure successful implementation of the Plan, its each objective is supervised by one of the Company’s Senior Managers. The Safety Culture Improvement and Leadership Development objective is supervised by CPC General Director. Other strategic objectives of the Plan include: Efficient management of work during medical emergencies and medical support in general, Improvement of the risk management process, risk barrier assessment, permit to work system, investigation and root cause analysis process, Improvement of competency and skills development in HSE, Improvement of the contractors' HSE management system, Improvement of motivation and responsibility system, automation / integration of HS business processes, Improvement of the level of environmental safety of operation activities, Improvement of the level of emergency preparedness and response in case of emergencies.

The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
