On 21 January 2025, at 07:00 p.m. Moscow time, the crude pipeline system of Caspian Pipeline Consortium was put back into operation after the 12-hour scheduled shutdown.
During the said period, scheduled regular maintenance of various crude pipeline systems, Pump Stations and Marine Terminal was completed. The work was carried out on the mechanical/process power and electrical equipment, instrumentation and automation systems and control systems.
CPC’s and Contractors’ specialists checked the emergency shutdown systems functioning along the entire line pipe in Russia and Kazakhstan. The sampling unit at Atyrau PS was removed and its condition was checked. In accordance with the uninterrupted power supply units (UPS) replacement program in the Eastern Region, new UPSs were connected at Atyrau PS. 300-mm ball valve was replaced at Komsomolskaya PS and at PS-7 the stem yoke of 1000-mm ball valve was inspected and mainline pump unit relief valves were calibrated.
A considerable amount of work was also performed on the line pipe. Defects were fixed by installation of repair sleeves on several segments of the trunk crude pipeline. Ball valves were checked for tightness, systems to protect the pipeline against their unauthorized closure were tested. 600-mm ball valve was replaced at KP0 at Tengiz PS.
As part of preparation to tie-in a new segment of the trunk crude pipeline in Astrakhan Oblast in spring 2025, tees and vent valves were welded.
Next stages of upgrade of SPM subsea pipeline systems were completed at the Marine Terminal Shore Facilities.
Algorithms of controlling process equipment of the Tank Farm, PS, line pipe were integrated with subsequent checking of field equipment, SCADA monitors, etc.
Work to replace UPS of the equipment on the line pipe, at PS and SCADA was completed.
It should be noted that such scheduled shutdowns take place several times a year. CPC notifies all Shippers of their timeline well in advance. This information in also taken into account by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in developing an annual schedule for oil transportation through Tengiz - Novorossiysk crude pipeline. Thus, the planned work of all participants in the process of oil production and transportation through CPC crude pipeline is ensured
Crude lifting from the Marine Terminal has currently been resumed in the standard mode.
For information:
CPC Pipeline System is one of the major projects in energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route transports over two-thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil, and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore.
