On Inspecting PS Atyrau by Atyrau Oblast Akimat

1.jpgSince April 14, 2025 and by order of Akim, Serik Shapkenov, the Environmental Department of Atyrau Oblast Akimat organized an unscheduled inspection of the regional industrial enterprises for compliance with the Republic of Kazakhstan environmental legislation. The reason was systematic complaints of Atyrau residents about the condition of atmospheric air in the city.
Caspian Pipeline Consortium-K JSC was among those subjected to the inspection. On the 17th of April inspectors visited PS Atyrau, where they examined the site, checked tanks condition and measured industrial emissions at gas turbine-driven mainline pumps.
Environmental inspectors noted: the air condition was in compliance with MPC, cleanliness and order at the large CPC industrial facility, compliance with high standards of environmental safety, and, separately, a large number of green plants in and around the station. 2.jpg

Daniyar Akhmetov, Manager, PS Atyrau, informed the inspectors about the advanced technologies and practices used at the station. For example, floating tank roofs with rigid seals providing 99% suppression of oil vapor emissions into the atmosphere compared to conventional stationary roofs are used at the Station. Regular air quality measurements are taken to control emissions and minimize their impact on the environment.

The inspectors were shown the implemented and successfully operating wastewater treatment system that effectively treats both domestic and industrial effluents. It includes presedimentation, physico-chemical cleaning, pressure flotation, five-stage filtration and UV disinfection. After treatment the water is reused to irrigate green areas and suppress dust, helping to save water and other resources.
3.jpgYessen Kulshetov, Lead HSE Engineer, demonstrated commitment of the Consortium and PS Atyrau team to high environmental standards and protection of the environment. For example, the Station actively participates in the area landscaping campaigns as part of additional environmental initiatives. During the “Clean River Bank” event, employees planted 400 young plants and the entire CPC Eastern Region team planted a total of 1,500 trees. Another Campaign to clean the banks of the Ural/Jaiyk River is scheduled for early June.
At the same time, the CPC specialists interviewed by the inspectors emphasized to the commission that in the immediate vicinity to the CPC facility there is a municipal landfill area, where fires occur regularly. As advised by the Station staff, unpleasant odors and smoke from smoldering garbage are periodically emitted from this area.4.jpg
