On June 1, 2025, ‘The Heart of Bumba’ performance show premiered under the auspices of CPC at Pushkin garden square, Elista.
The event, dedicated to the Children’s Day and held as part of the CPC's environmental/educational project ‘Let’s Save Our Environment’, was joined by Mikhail Grishankov, CPC-R Deputy General Director, RF Government Relations; Yuri Kaminov, Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Kalmykia; and Bataar Ubushaev, Director of the State Natural Biosphere Reserve ‘Blackland’.
The show, directed by Alexey Sarganov, is based on the several plot lines - the piece about saiga antelopes, the legend of Sar-Gerel, and the ‘Horses of the Sky’ performance. All of them focus on the main duty of each Kalmyk: treating the steppe with utmost care and protecting the environment, flora, and fauna of the Republic. The show explores global issues of desertification and ongoing extinction of rare animals and plants.
The Heart of Bumba is a combination of a puppet theater and life-size costumed figures play. Thanks to impressive live acting, classic and streetwise mascots, and advanced technical features the show manages to both be a state-of-the-art theatrical piece, and to preserve a classical atmosphere favored by the youngest audience.
Going forward, the show, financed through CPC charity funds, will be regularly staged in the Kalmyk State Puppet Theater ‘Dzhangar’.
As a reminder, the area in the center of Elista was thematically arranged and fitted out as part of the CPC's environmental/educational project ‘Let’s Save Our Environment’ in the beginning of May. The public promenade area behind the House of the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia was beautified with topiary figures (horse, saiga antelope, sheep with lambs) and park benches. Another area in the regional capital was also improved a bit earlier: juniper bushes were planted along Anatsky avenue within CPC's environmental project.
CPC has been implementing the ‘Let’s Save Our Environment’ project in Kalmykia since 2014. It aims to improve environmental awareness of a younger generation and support initiatives in the area of environmental protection. Educational events were organized for school students in April and May this year: a week of lessons on ecology at Russian National Gymnasium named after Sergiy Radonezhsky, the regional forum of young ecologists hosted by Kalmyk State University, and the environmental quest ‘Learning Nature’ at Druzhba park in Elista.
