CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

New OSR Plan Approved at CPC Drill in Kalmykia

20221125-1s.jpgOn November 16, Caspian Pipeline Consortium conducted a scheduled comprehensive drill to mitigate the consequences of a conditional accident on the line section of Tengiz-Novorossiysk trunk crude pipeline in the Republic of Kalmykia. CPC-R PS-2 staff, STARSTROI emergency response station team and private security company Nachin personnel were engaged in the drill. The comprehensive drill was observed by the representatives of the Federal Agencies, including Russia MChS, Rosprirodnadzor and Rostekhnadzor.



20221125-2s.jpgAccording to the drill scenario, the crude pipeline section between PS-2 and PS-3 was ruptured as a result of a surge. CPC and Contractors’ operation subdivisions the conditional oil spill of 6.4 hectares was contained using a protective dam with retaining walls. The consequences of the conditional spill were mitigated and crude oil was pumped into the temporary storage tanks, the contaminated soil and wastes were removed to the disposal landfills.

The drill results were assessed by the commission consisting of Rosprirodnadzor’s and Rostekhnadzor’s representatives. The agency commission’s assessment confirmed the reality of the new regional Oil Spill Response Plan of CPC-R (OSR Plan) and sufficiency of the resources and equipment the Company has to contain and respond to the maximum possible oil spills in the Republic of Kalmykia.

This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
