CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

CPC Comprehensive Drill Conducted in Stavropol Krai

On 28 December 2022, a comprehensive drill was conducted in Stavropol Krai to confirm CPC-R’s readiness to action to contain and respond to oil and oil product spills. The function with 56 persons and 38 equipment units engaged was at KP1124 of the Tengiz-Novorossiysk trunk crude pipeline.

According to the drill scenario, PS-5 shift supervisor received information from an that an oil leak was detected on the linear part of CPC-R trunk pipeline, 80 section, 300 m from the left bank of the underwater crossing of the Tashla River.

The shift supervisor gave a notification according to the Western Region’s notification scheme, the line dispatcher of CPC OCC in Novorossiysk conditionally shut down the emergency section of the linear part of the trunk crude pipeline by closing the block valves. CPC-R Western Region Commission for Prevention and Response to Emergencies and Fire Safety (CPREFS) was called and its work was arranged, the notification of the simulated emergency was sent to the governmental authorities and other competent agencies.ставро22.jpg

In the course of the comprehensive drill, containment of and respond to simulated on-shore and water crossing spill and simulated oil fire were practiced.

The Commission consisting of representatives of EMERCOM Main Department in Stavropol Krai, Stavropol Krai Administration, Rosprirodnadzor and Rostekhnadzor confirmed the sufficiency of resources and labor to contain and respond to the maximum possible oil spills in Stavropol Krai in accordance with CPC-R Oil and Oil Product Spill Containment and Response Plan.

CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects with foreign capital in energy sector in the CIS. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route transports over two-thirds of all Kazakhstan export crude, as well as crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.
