CPC Marine Terminal oil spill cleanup completed, emergency alert lifted

CPC Marine Terminal emergency operations center on 30 August 2025 declared the main offshore oil spill response efforts based on the OSR (oil spill response) plan at the CPC marine terminal completed based live sea surface monitoring data.

The OSR plan had been put into effect following an emergency, an oil spill to the surface of the sea, during a tanker loading operation using SPM-2 hoses.

The amount of oil spilled is being confirmed, with an investigation in progress into the causes of the contingency which resulted in a marine breakaway coupling of a floating hose having been activated during tanker loading at the SPM.

The oil spill was promptly contained, according to watchdog reports.

The operation involved 13 tug boats, 4 small boats, 5 oil skimmers, and 9 floating tanks, with over 1,000 m of booms deployed.

Oil water emulsion gathered during the efforts was delivered to the Marine Terminal for disposal.

Sea surface and air environmental monitoring was continuously in progress during the operation and will continue looking forward with samples taken at least twice daily.

In addition, the coastal area is subject to visual observation arranged from the Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka beach  to the Utrish nature preserve and Anapa city beached, with no oil or oil-containing film detected, as confirmed by videos that are available, including local resident's comments.
