September 8, 2026 saw Astana hosting CPC Safe Work Culture Development Leadership Summit. Almost 130 Directors and Managers of various CPC Subdivisions, Shareholder companies and contractors took part in the event.The main goal of the summit held under the slogan “Trust is the Best Foundation” was to make sure that all participants of the international project are on the same page in terms of understanding Safe Work Culture values. The event has become an important tool to develop efficient communication between CPC and partner companies; this was the second year in a row that the Summit was held in a format like that.
Nikolay Gorban, CPC General Director opened the Summit with a welcoming address to the attendees.
“A significant part of the work at the facilities is done in cooperation with contractors that are our partners. We work on the same sites, address common tasks, face the same risks”, pointed out CPC General Director in his speech. “Operational safety is instrumental to ensuring stable operation of the entire process system. Safety influences transportation reliability, schedule, production processes sustainability and shareholder confidence. Safety requirements therefore cannot be viewed separately from business objectives”.
Sergey Polovkov, HSE Deputy General Manager, RF, made a presentation on CPC Safe Work Culture performance. Currently, the Safe Work Culture level corresponds to the independent stage of the Bradley curve. Reaching a higher (interdependent) level calls for continuously interacting with Company partners and integrating them into industrial safety and occupational health assurance processes. The presentation particularly focused on broadening the practice of managers’ personal commitments in terms of adherence to standards of conduct and management approach.
Currently, CPC is implementing the Strategic HSE Plan for 2025-2027. Strictly holding on to this course allows achieving high safety performance indicators. As of this moment, the Consortium and contractors have worked 44.6 MM man-hours without LTAs. Total mileage driven since the last major MVA is now 98.2 MM km.Later on, Managers of CPC Contractors spoke on the aspects of leadership in Safety Culture Development. Views were exchanged on what else needs to be done for the partner companies to go beyond complying with the Consortium requirements and become full members of the common Process Safety System development.
The second half of the Summit featured a workshop “Personal HSE Commitments” where various Leadership tools were practiced in the format of a business game. Case studies highlighted real consequences of information concealment in job teams.
Tomorrow, another important event on Safe Work Culture development - Corporate Safety Day - will take place in Astana.
