CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

The Project is designed to increase the trunk pipeline capacity

CPC General Director Opened a Training Center for Security and Other Discipline Specialists

20240523-1.jpgOn 21 May 2024, in Kalmykia, CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban officially opened a Training Center (TC, or training ground) of the Contractor who ensures security of the Company’s facilities.

The facility is designed for practical training of employees of the security entity and adaptation of new employees to future working conditions. It provides training for video surveillance system operators; specialists in searching for illegal taps (IT) on the crude pipeline, IT branches, pothole necks, etc. with simulated working environment. This provides practical training of specific skills in operating specialized search equipment, including simulation of major emergencies (IT, oil spill, etc.).

20240523-2.jpgSimulation of the existing crude pipeline route is created in the TC: a pipe in which warm water circulates, simulating heated oil, is laid in the ground. Adjoining pipes of different diameters are connected to this pipe, simulating taps into the crude pipeline. Pipeline segments with dummy taps are designed to get the primary practical skills of searching for and detecting the existing illegal taps, branches, pothole necks, etc. Different types of soil are simulated in this process, taking into account the specifics of the regions crossed by Tengiz - Novorossiysk crude pipeline (sand, black soil, clay, stony land, etc.).

In addition, typical components of the crude pipeline: a crude pipeline section with a section of damaged coating, repair sleeves of several types, CP test stations with galvanic connections to the pipeline segments are simulated on the training ground. At the same time, typical design elements of illegal taps have been created: coated and uncoated small-diameter steel pipes, small-diameter hoses with various types of reinforcement, ball valves with various camouflages. A number of additional facilities simulating the pipeline system and IT have also been equipped.

The Training Center allows using various training modules and training programs designed for different target groups, including the Consortium’s employees - pipe fitters and others. In addition, the Training Center can be used to practice skills in controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and countering and suppressing UAVs.

For information:

The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
