On 19 July 2026, during loading operations at the single point moorings SPM-1 and SPM-2, two sea tankers, ASIA, crude oil owned by Tengizchevroil (Chevron), and NISSOS IOS, crude oil owned by Kashagan B.V. and Maten (KazMunayGaz), came under a targeted terrorist attack with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The tankers under the flags of Liberia (ASIA) and the Marshall Islands (NISSOS IOS) have international crews onboard.
As a result of the attack a fire broke out on the tanker ASIA, which was extinguished with participation of a CPC emergency response support team.
The oil loading is stopped. There are no casualties or fatalities among CPC or contractor personnel. No oil spill occurred. The crews did not request any medical assistance. The tankers remained afloat, damage assessment being in progress.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium unites major fuel and energy companies from Russia, USA, Kazakhstan, and several countries of Western Europe. We believe that the attack on the company’s facility and civilian vessels at sea off the CPC Marine Terminal is also an attack on the interests of the CPC member states.
We shall highlight that this is already the fifth act of direct aggression against a purely civilian facility of CPC staying under protection of international law.
All CPC Shareholders and governments of CPC member states acknowledge an important role of the Consortium in ensuring the global energy security and meeting the economic interests of the member states.
It should be noted that no sanctions or restrictive measures have ever been imposed on CPC, which also testifies to the recognition of the significant CPC role in ensuring interests of the Company's Western Shareholders.
CPC is transporting crude oil from three major fields in Kazakhstan: Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak. The volume of crude oil transshipment in 2025 made was about 70.5 million tons, more than 75% of which were owned by international shippers, the largest of them being Tengizchevroil (Chevron), “ExxonMobil”, “KazMunayGas”, “Eni”, and “Shell”.
