CPC guarantees efficient and environmentally safe movement of crude oil

20221117.jpgOn November 17, 2022, CPC General Director Nikolay Gorban visited Astrakhan PS in CPC Central Region and also had a meeting with the staff of CPC-R Astrakhan Office.

Operation of production equipment, availability and condition of the stock of spare parts, availability of regulatory documentation and its timely completion, an administrative building, a workshop and a fire depot were inspected at the pump station. An unscheduled drill checking the readiness of CPC personnel and contractors for emergency response within the pump station perimeter based on scenarios was conducted.

According to the inspection findings, the site and all equipment are in good condition, CPC employees and contractors demonstrate a responsible attitude to their duties and high professionalism.

CPC Management Team and DBN representatives discussed the current state of affairs, status of preparation of sub-systems for commissioning, as well as occupational health and safety performance.

Leadership practices facilitating further development of Safety Culture, lessons learned from near-misses, motivation and prevention of unsafe behavior at CPC sites by CPC/contractor employees were discussed at the meeting with CPC PS and Astrakhan office personnel.

Astrakhan PS is one of the largest of CPC pump stations. It was commissioned in 1992, and upgraded in 2001 and 2014. A new mainline pump house, an indoor switchgear, a packaged transformer substation have been constructed and foam generator equipment and mud strainers have been connected as part of the Debottlenecking Program since mid-2020. A comprehensive testing of the mainline pump house is currently in progress.

After the work under this Program is completed, CPC will be capable of transporting up to 72.5 million tons of oil per year through Astrakhan Oblast.

The CPC Pipeline System is one of CIS largest energy investment projects that involves foreign capital. The length of the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline is 1,511 km. This route moves over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export oil along with crude from Russian fields including those in the Caspian region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM), allowing tankers to be loaded safely at significant distance offshore, including in poor weather conditions
